For ONIX athlete Jena Klett, her journey into the world of pickleball began unexpectedly, sparked by a simple outing with her mother. While visiting California, Jena accompanied her mom to a beginner’s pickleball class held at a local park. What started as a casual day of fun quickly became a defining moment. “From that moment, we were absolutely captivated,” Jena recalls. The energy, pace, and community feel of the game instantly clicked with them.

Upon returning to Arizona, Jena couldn’t wait to share the newfound passion. She introduced the sport to her partner, and before long, nightly pickleball sessions became a routine. Those games not only deepened her love for pickleball but also laid the foundation for lasting friendships. Over the past seven years, that tight-knit circle of friends has remained, all connected by a shared passion that started on the court.

Today, Jena has taken her love for the sport to the next level by becoming a full-time pickleball coach. Her daily mission is to guide new and experienced players through their own journeys, encouraging them to embrace the joy and growth the game has to offer. “I continued to play because of the incredible community I discovered at each park and my desire to push my own limits and explore how far I could take my skills,” she shares.

Jena currently coaches at the Seal Beach Tennis Club in California, a vibrant hub for pickleball activity. In addition to her coaching role, she regularly competes in local professional tournaments, always with an eye on the podium. Looking ahead, she dreams of launching her own nationwide pickleball camps—programs that would blend high-level instruction with the inclusive, fun-loving spirit that first drew her into the game.

While many professional players test new paddles regularly, Jena remains loyal to her first love—the ONIX Voyager Pro Graphite. “People might chuckle, but this was the very first ONIX paddle I ever used, and I’ve never considered changing. Outside of coaching and competition, Jena values pickleball for the lifestyle it fosters. It keeps her active, connects her with nature, and provides daily opportunities to bond with others. She finds motivation in legendary figures like Michael Jordan, whose perseverance, mental strength, and relentless determination continue to inspire her. “He’s a constant source of motivation for me,” she adds.

One of Jena’s proudest competitive moments came when she won a Bronze medal in the Mixed 5.0/19+ division at the 2022 USAPA Nationals. That podium finish served as a powerful symbol of her progress and commitment. “I never imagined I would be coaching on a full-time basis, but here I am. It truly is one of the most rewarding jobs you could have,” she reflects.
